Designated Beach Activities

Bathing and Surfing

Bathing is allowed weather permitting at the following locations or as posted.

  • Beacon Beach
  • Chicago Beach
  • Brooklyn Beach
  • New York Beach
  • Trenton Beach
  • Neptune/Seaside Beach
  • Baltimore & Philadelphia Beaches*
    (*Conditions permitting and at the discretion of Beach Manager/Chief Lifeguard)


Mats and Body Boards

Mats and body boards (without skegs or any other flotation devices) are allowed, weather permitting, at the following locations or as posted in the beach area.

  • Beacon Beach
  • Chicago Beach
  • Brooklyn Beach
  • New York Beach
  • Trenton Beach
  • Neptune/Seaside Beach
  • Baltimore & Philadelphia Beaches*
    (*Conditions permitting and at the discretion of Beach Manager/Chief Lifeguard)
  • North Beach*
    (*At the discretion of Beach Manager/Chief Lifeguard)


Surfboards and Body Boards

  • Surfboards and body boards (with skegs) are permitted south of the Baltimore Boulevard pipe and north of the Philadelphia Boulevard jetty.
  • Surfboards are also permitted on North Beach. This area will be open to bathing when surfers are not present due to calm water conditions and at the direction of the Beach Manager.
  • When bathing is not permitted at other beachfront areas due to wave conditions or rough surf, these locations may be temporarily designated for surfing if conditions are determined to be safe and at the discretion of the Beach Manager or Chief Lifeguard.


Jetties
  • No one is permitted on the jetties during bathing hours.

Rough Surf Management

During rough surf conditions the Beach Manager or Chief Lifeguard will monitor and regulate the beachfront to determine whether bathing, kayaking, or surfing is to be permitted, restricted, or closed (during or after normal operating hours) in accordance with Borough Ordinance No. 560.

The Rough Surf Management Plan will remain in effect until the surf conditions subside and normal beach operating conditions are resume.
