Intersection Improvements to Washington Blvd/2nd Ave

Aim to Increase Pedestrian Safety

The Borough of Sea Girt is pleased to announce a series of intersection improvements and crosswalk enhancements aimed at bolstering pedestrian safety and promoting efficient traffic flow at the intersection of Washington Blvd (County Route 49) and Second Avenue.

In collaboration with Monmouth County Division of Engineering & Traffic Safety, Sea Girt is pleased to announce key improvements;
  • New Crosswalk Markings: New Type A Crosswalks will be added to the intersection and will feature high-visibility markings and signage, enhancing visibility for both pedestrians and drivers.
  • Upgraded No Passing Center Line: No passing center line will be increased along Washington Blvd. and Second Avenue to provide increased safety of drivers approaching intersection.
  • New Edge Lines: Edge lines will be added along Washington Blvd. from Fifth Avenue to Second Avenue as an enhancement to reduce speed and increase driver awareness.
  • New Crosshatch Lines: For enhanced visibility and to maintain driver focus within travel lane, Crosshatch Lines will be added close to crosswalk markings as well as to the northern part of triangular traffic island at intersection of Washington Blvd. & Second Avenue.
  • Upgraded High Visibility Signage: Additional High Visibility Signage will be installed on both approaches to newly painted crosswalks at intersection of Washington Blvd. and Second Avenue to include Pedestrian Crossing Signs, Stop Here For Pedestrian Signs, and Combination Horizontal Alignment/Advisory 10MPH Speed Signs.
  • New Stop Line: Two Stop Lines will be added to the intersection at both approaches to crosswalk marking crossing Washington Blvd. The addition of the Stop Lines will provide proper distance for drivers to stop prior to curve in roadway that allows pedestrians the ability to safely navigate across crosswalk.

The Borough of Sea Girt is committed to creating a safe and inclusive community for all residents and visitors. These intersection improvements align with our mission to prioritize public safety, enhance infrastructure, and contribute to the overall well-being of our residents.

We would like to express our gratitude to the Monmouth County Division of Engineering & Traffic Safety for their collaboration and support throughout this project. Additionally, we appreciate the patience and understanding of the public as we work to implement these vital enhancements.
