Shade Tree Commission

The Shade Tree Commission created by the Borough of Sea Girt, is comprised of residents, appointed by the Council. They serve without compensation for their terms of office and with all the rights, duties, and obligations provided for in the Borough Code.

Shade Tree Commission Approval

The Borough of Sea Girt has many mature trees and shrubs that enhance our community's beauty and appeal. Borough officials realize the importance of preserving this natural asset and have given the Shade Tree Commission the sole responsibility of regulating the planting, maintenance, and removal of all trees planted within the right-of-way areas adjoining our streets.

All property owners in the Borough must obtain approval to plant, prune, or remove any trees or shrubs in their front yard between the sidewalk and street. Shade tree approval is mandatory, but free of charge. Assistance can also be provided to help you select the appropriate tree for planting or recommend the proper care for existing trees.

NJ Commercial License Plate - We Treasure Our Trees

Another way to help the greening of New Jersey is through the purchase of the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles (NJ DMV) commercial vehicle license plate, We Treasure Our Trees, which funds New Jersey's Shade Tree and Community Forest Program.

Proceeds from the sale of these attractive license plates will fund tree planting projects, improve wildlife habitats, promote clean air and water, reduce energy costs, fund hometown beautification projects and educate the citizens on the importance of trees, forests and their role in the maintenance of a clean and healthy environment.

The plate, available from NJ DMV, features (in full color) the State Tree of New Jersey - the Red Oak and the New Jersey Memorial Tree - the Dogwood.
