Tax Deductions Available to Qualifying Residents

Veterans or Surviving Spouse of a Veteran

  • A deduction of $250 each year is available for New Jersey qualified veterans of the United States Armed Forces who were honorably discharged and served on active duty during military operations including, but not limited to, war efforts in World War II, Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, and Iraq Wars; Conflicts in Korean and Vietnam; Peacekeeping Mission in Grenada, Lebanon, and Panama; Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom; Missions in Bosnia, Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Somalia.
  • In order to qualify for the $250 Veteran Deduction, the veteran or surviving spouse must own a residence in the Borough of Sea Girt, as their primary residence and have served a minimum of 14 days in a combat theater, and provide a copy of the DD-214 showing the veteran was honorably discharged and served during the aforementioned military operations. 100% Permanently Disabled Veteran or Surviving Spouse/Civil Union or Domestic Partner

  • Qualified New Jersey Resident War Veterans having certain service-connected disabilities described in law or having been declared totally or 100% permanently disabled by the U.S. Veterans Administration are granted full tax exemption on the dwelling house and lot.

Senior Citizens

  • An annual deduction of $250 on property taxes is available for homeowners in the Borough of Sea Girt who are 65 years or older, permanently and totally disabled, or who are a surviving spouse of a senior citizen or disabled person. The homeowner must occupy the property receiving the deduction. A yearly income limitation of $10,000 or less applies (Social Security payments are exempt).
