Zoning & Code Enforcement Officer

The Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer is the first Borough official a Sea Girt residential or commercial property owner should meet with during the land use and zoning permit application process.

Responsibilities

In the Borough of Sea Girt, the Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer has dual responsibilities within the Borough of Sea Girt.


Zoning Officer Duties

The Zoning Officer is responsible for enforcing the provisions of the Borough of Sea Girt's Zoning Regulations. Zoning permits shall be secured from the Zoning Officer prior to the issuance of a building permit for construction, erection, or alteration of any structure or land. Prior to issuing a zoning permit, the Zoning Officer shall ascertain that all the conditions and prerequisites of the Borough of Sea Girt Zoning Regulations are met.

The Zoning Officer inspects the properties in the Borough for violations, or, upon being advised of the existence of a violation, issues orders to the owners of the property to cease and desist from such violation or, where other means fail, files a complaint in the Municipal Court.


Code Enforcement Officer Duties

The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for the enforcement of the provisions of the latest edition of the International Property Maintenance Code, and other requirements specifically provided for by Borough of Sea Girt Ordinances, to all existing residential structures and all existing premises, and constitute minimum requirements and standards for premises, structures, equipment and facilities for light, ventilation, space, heating, sanitation, protection from the elements, life safety, safety from fire and other hazards, and for safe and sanitary maintenance; the responsibility of owners, operators and occupants; the occupancy of existing structures and premises, and for the administration, enforcement and penalties.

Certificates of Occupancy shall be secured from the Code Enforcement Officer prior to the rental of, or transfer of title of, all residential structures and residential rental units contained in commercial structures.
