Sea Girt Beach Outflow Pipe Repairs - March Update

• Neptune Outflow Pipe Repairs: On or about March 25th, weather permitting work will begin on the Neptune Outflow Pipe repairs.  The contractor will begin mobilizing on this date and work will commence there after.  The Neptune entrance way to the beach will be closed and we ask that the public stay away from this area while under construction. If needed, the Seaside entrance will be closed depending on the size and scope of workspace needed.  An emergency permit has been obtained through the DEP as well as emergency funding through the Borough to address the necessary repairs and replacement of approximately 160 feet of outflow pipe for the Neptune outflow pipe.  Our thanks to the immediate response and cooperation from the DEP, the Borough Engineers, the contractor and the Mayor and Council to address this issue and ensure its permitting, funding and repairs to the outflow pipe were made as soon as possible.  This work is expected to take about 4 weeks.  Once complete the beach profile will be returned to its normal state. 

• Baltimore Outflow Pipe: The Baltimore outflow pipe was damaged in the December winter storm where the end section of the outflow pipe broke away from its cribbing and strapping.  Yesterday 3/21/24 with the assistance of a very low tide and favorable conditions - the Sea Girt DPW, Sea Girt Beach Department and assistance from the Spring Lake DPW - the broken section was removed from the current state in the ocean and placed on the back beach.  The broken section of pipe will be removed in concert with the removal of the Neptune Pipe damaged sections.  There are still submerged pilings between the navigational aid ( the piling sticking out of the ocean ) and the new current end of the outflow pipe.  Sand is always migrating in this area - KEEP OFF THE PIPE AND AWAY FROM ANY EXPOSED PILINGS at the end of the pipe.  Further discussion with the DEP, the borough engineers and the Borough are in process to determine the best course of action for any additional repair or replacement of the broken section of pipe and associated pilings/cradles.  The current state of the outflow pipe is functioning as designed and water is flowing out of the pipe with no restrictions.
